We encourage patients to see the hygienist for professional cleaning, and advice and education. At times this cannot be provided through the NHS but your dentist may be able to recommend a hygienist privately.
Seeing the hygienist privately does not affect any of the NHS entitlement. It will instead help you take the best possible care of your teeth and gums so that you can avoid future treatments and costs.
Our diet has lots of food that can heavily stain teeth such as tea, coffee, red wine, smoking, indian food etc. These stains are unsightly and produce a roughened surface on teeth that increase plaque sticking to the teeth and can increase the risk or gum disease.
You can now see the hygienist to have the stains removed. This is something you can do as often as you like as it dosnt damage the teeth .
If you are interested in having your teeth polished, ask your dentist to refer you to the hygienist.
